The Story

Originally built in 1908, 600 W. Chicago sits along the bend of the Chicago River, standing as a testament to the city’s industrial past. Once home to the Montgomery Ward catalog warehouse, the building has continuously evolved to meet the demands of modern workspaces. Under Sterling Bay’s leadership, the property has been reimagined to support today’s workforce, featuring updated tenant amenities, expanded retail, and a renewed focus on connecting the indoors with the surrounding cityscape.

Charlie Green Studio led the design vision, choosing to incorporate the building’s industrial history by highlighting original architectural elements including brick walls, concrete posts, and even remnants of old manufacturing equipment. Floor-to-ceiling glass windows bring in abundant natural light, complementing the space’s white walls, pops of navy and teal green, and lush greenery. These elements come together to create an inviting and energizing environment.

Office Revolution was tasked with furnishing key amenity areas, including the café, lounge, meeting, and conference spaces. Designed to encourage collaboration and relaxation, these areas offer a balance of functionality and aesthetic appeal. A standout feature is a custom hi/low table, crafted by our sister company Custom Crafters, bringing a unique and tailored element to the project.

This project incorporated more custom furniture pieces than typically seen in lobby environments. Notably, custom cushions were designed and installed for bench-style seating, requiring close collaboration with Charlie Green Studio to ensure a flawless fit and finish.

By blending historic elements with contemporary design, 600 W. Chicago now offers a dynamic, engaging environment that meets the evolving needs of its tenants. This project highlights how thoughtful furniture selection and custom detailing can enhance the functionality and character of a space—ensuring its legacy continues for years to come.

As a long-standing client, Sterling Bay has entrusted Office Revolution with multiple projects, particularly within their amenity and spec suite portfolio. Our deep understanding of their needs and commitment to excellence resulted in yet another successful, seamless project at 600 W. Chicago, reinforcing our reputation for delivering high-quality, thoughtfully curated spaces.
