On March 17 (St. Patrick’s Day!), our Raleigh location held a showroom grand opening event, inviting partners from Teknion & Studio TK, A&D firms, general contractors, real estate firms, clients and other members of the Raleigh Chamber. Over 200 attendees came out to celebrate, view the space, and enjoy some basketball and fantastic BBQ! It was a great opportunity to welcome everyone into our new space and connect.

In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Office Revolution participated in a day of service benefitting local charities and nonprofits of their choosing. Participants in Chicago collected donations for organizations like AMVETS and volunteered via My Block, My Hood, My City. where the goal is to cultivate a deeper connection to the community in order to ensure everyone has what they need to succeed.
Participants from the Raleigh office partnered with A Lotta Love, and painted rooms at a local domestic facility. A Lotta Love remakes and maintains homeless shelter & crisis center rooms to be welcoming, safe, comforting spaces for the people who need them.
The MLK Day of Service empowers individuals, strengthens communities, bridges barriers, creates solutions to social problems, and moves us closer to Dr. King’s vision of a “Beloved Community.”
Throughout the past year Office Revolution, Compel, Custom Crafters and Rework employees have been recognizing each other’s work and nominating their peers for our Employee Excellence Program. Individuals that have contributed to their company’s success by putting in extra effort have been recognized each month, and winners have the option to win a gift card or donate to a local charity. In 2021, we had 10 employees choose to donate to a charity of their choosing, totaling $1,000 in donations!
Charities include; A Lotta Love, Build Chicago, Canine Collective, Greater Chicago Food Depository, The Hill Learning Center, Mercy Home, Melendez Foundation, Misericordia Heart of Mercy, Saving Grace Animals for Adoption and St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
In December, Office Revolution participated in the 2021 Holiday Gift Drive benefitting local Boys & Girls Clubs of America. Their mission is to enable all young people to reach their full potential by providing emotional, educational, physical and cultural resources that allow them to enjoy their childhood and thrive in adulthood. Our Chicago team had an online shopping party and purchased 14 gifts for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Chicago.
Participants from our Raleigh office each pulled a child’s name and purchased a gift from their wish list, providing 12 gifts for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Wake County, NC.
We purchased several gifts to ensure that every child is able to open a gift this holiday season. The Gift Drive is a great way to show kids how much the community cares about them and share the joy of the giving season.

An Architect, General Contractor and Furniture Expert Walk Into a Podcast – Our own Bernie Donaldson speaks on The Office Space Podcast with host Dougal Jeppe—along with Tom Zurowksi from Eastlake Studio and Tony Iannessa from BIG Construction—on the current state of the office market and design/construction trends and considerations.
“Our outlook looks incredibly positive for the next few years, specific to corporate interiors,” says Tony Iannessa, founder & CEO at BIG Construction.
“Workplaces are critical to maintaining the culture that [organizations have] established…” says Tom Zurowski, managing principal of Eastlake Studio.
Bernie mentions that there’s growth within the real estate sector and adds, “Culture is key…and to maintain that, you have to be together…Employees don’t want to come back to an office that is antiquated, or isn’t ‘safe’ or collaborative, so that’s creating a lot of the inquiries or interest that’s going on right now.”
So, what do employees want to return to? “Design trends last year started with a focus on safety and wellness, but this year, I think we’ve begun to realize that flexibility is really important, meaning how we work today will probably be different tomorrow,” Tom says. “We need to anticipate and facilitate changes in the workplace. That means investing in high-performance furniture that can easily be reconfigured and…investing in demountable walls that can be re-worked.”
“The focus is collaboration.That’s an important part of what workplaces are going to look like moving forward…It’s not leading to smaller spaces, it’s leading to smarter spaces…People have been remote for so long, they’re looking for some sort of contrast from their home.It’s a key part of the stuff that we’re working on…important to our clients,” he adds.
Bernie chimes in, “[The number of projects requesting] demountable walls [or pre-manufactured construction]…have grown exponentially since the pandemic started. There are a lot of reasons for that…the cost of raw materials has gone up a lot, and…[it’s] part of making, as Tom referenced, a ‘smart space.’ …From a labor standpoint, we have to deliver projects faster and more efficiently than we have in the past.”
Tony comments in depth about logistics, material lead times and material pricing, noting everything from cargo containers to railcars, the trucking shortage to drywall, glass, flooring and data cabling. The common theme? Longer lead times and increased cost.
The three then harmonize on advice to create a better client experience: “Onboarding all facets of your project team early.” The fruits of acting early are bountiful, and your project team can help identify which products can be substituted to beat long lead times.
What do our futures hold? “There’s no doubt that the office space is going to be different, smarter and more vibrant…and I look forward to that world for sure,” says Tom.
Bernie concludes, “We live in a world-class city, and Chicago has proven over the years that it can flex and it can change…and the opportunity is very bright for all of us.”

Office Revolution is committed to giving back and supporting the community, and this week our Chicago team (Shannon Caruso, Gina Koss, Jenny Murphy, Jackie Johnson, Susan Murphy, Brittany Thomas, Meredyth Marshall and Andrew Northrup) and Columbus team (Lainey Bennett, Nicole Miller, Alex Lang, Matt Wilmers, and the new office dog, Sampson) assembled care kits for Ronald McDonald House Charities. The families at RMHC are often on the go, between doctors’ appointments and hospital visits, so the care kits provide them with some essentials so they can stay by their child’s side.
We are proud to support RMHC and give back to these families who are facing some of the toughest challenges they’ll ever have to deal with.
